We Are A Green Publisher

Forest Management Practices

 

DragonEye Publishing books are printed with paper that is sourced from mills whose forest management practices are certified by independent, internationally recognized and sustainable forestry certification. Suppliers who source wood from third party suppliers must provide proof that wood supplied by their third party sources has been harvested in an environmentally sound manner.  Some of these are:  

  •  

    • Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), 

    • Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), 

    • Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA). 

 

 

 

In addition we are committed to using book manufactures that are certified in the above.

 

Book Manufactures must be compliance with all government regulations in each community and country where our paper suppliers operate. We do not do business with companies who collude with or purchase wood products from illegal logging operations. We aim to use only acceptable fiber sources and work with suppliers to eliminate the use of Indonesian fiber from books produced.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

 

DragonEye Publishing is committed to reducing its overall use of fiber where possible. We seek to reduce basis weights on titles where appropriate in order to reduce the use of fiber and raw materials consumed in the production of that paper. In addition, we have an extensive supply chain management process that allows us to better oversee print runs, and we are increasing the use of Print on Demand (POD) technologies and Offset Printing, to make for less waste in printing and shipping.

Our books are printed in the nearest country where the Booksellers / Bookstores / Wholesalers / Distributors are located. This allows for the reduction in shipping costs around the world.

Our books will be setup for EBM  This lets Bookstores / Universities / Libraries who have this machine to  print our books up in Minutes.

What is a Print on Demand (POD) title?

 

A POD book is a digital file stored by Distributors / Wholesalers from the publisher. When a book is ordered by a customer, the Wholesaler / Distributor prints out a copy, and sends it to where the customer / Bookstore / online bookseller is. A POD book is the same quality as a 'normal' printed book, and in no way differs in style, content, or appearance. Many publishers, especially academic ones, are moving towards this new and efficient model. 

 

The amount of copies the publisher will print to have on hand range from 1 copy up to 1,000 copies, and are printed as needed for the publisher. When those are sold, the publisher prints more. Not any different than a Offset Printing or Mass Market PaperBack

What is Offset Printing?

 

Using Offset printing is when there is a demand for a book that requires the publisher to have a large amount of copies on hand due to weekly / monthly sales. The publisher prints the minimum for a print run at once.

 

Minimum print run for Offset printing at one time for any given titles in bulk: 

 

  • Paperback (B/W interior) 1,800 copies

  • Paperback (Color Interior) 1,200 copies

  • Hardback (B/W Interior)  1,000 copies

  • Hardback (Color Interior) 800 copies

 

Once these are sold, the Publisher has more printed in the same manner.

 

Every Offset Printing Manufacture Minimum is different.

Can a book that is POD be changed to Offset?

 

Yes. But, it is based on a great many sales of books by the customer. When this slows, the publisher will return to POD.

 

Again the POD printing and Offset print there is no difference in the book.  POD - The Retail Price is $12.95. In offset, the Retail price can stay the same as the POD printing, unless the Publisher lowers the Retail Price to  $9.95

 

The difference between POD and Offset Print book is that Offset printing is less for the Publisher if printing the minimum quantity of 800 - 1,800 copies per print run at one time, so the printing cost is also lower for the publisher who can pass on the savings to customers. These will be stored in a warehouse for future sales.

 

Because of the need and expense of warehouses for storage, many publishers are moving to use POD and print short run.  The publisher prints 1 - 200 hundred copies at a time until there are thousands of copies selling
